Curriculum Intention:
- To stimulate students’ imagination and provoke a desire for greater knowledge and understanding of ICT and its value to every day life and the future.
- To enable students to become ICT literate and to give students a broad foundation of ICT and programming skills. By the end of key stage 3 we endeavour for all of our students to be competent users of the full Microsoft Office suite as well as developing essential programming skills and to equip students who may want to study ICT/Computer Science at key stages 4 and 5.
- For students to be responsible ICT users. Students should understand that whenever they use ICT in a school or an organisation setting they will have to sign and abide by an acceptable use policy. Students should understand the importance of using strong passwords and not sharing passwords with others.
- Develop a broad awareness of the importance of e-safety and staying safe online. Students will know how to protect themselves online and understand the importance of associating strangers with danger.
- To understand what is meant by a digital footprint and give students an opportunity to design what their future digital footprint might look like.
- The ICT department deliver an assembly during e-safety week to all year groups to promote e-safety and to cover any current issues.
OCR’s GCSE (9–1) in Computer Science will encourage students to:
- An understanding of and ability to apply the fundamental principles and concepts of computer science including; abstraction, decomposition, logic, algorithms and data representation
- The ability to analyse problems in computational terms through practical experience of solving such problems including writing programs to do so
- The capacity for thinking creatively, innovatively, analytically, logically and critically
- The capacity to see relationships between different aspects of computer science
- Mathematical skills
- The ability to articulate the individual (moral), social (ethical), legal and cultural opportunities and risks of digital technology.
