English Literature

In Key Stage 4 the majority of our students study GCSE English Literature. This is a demanding course that focuses on four key skills:

  • Analysis of language in a range of literary texts
  • Analysis of structure and form in a range of literary texts
  • Making connections between literary texts
  • Understanding of context

Throughout the course we study a range of poems, novel and plays (including one by Shakespeare; currently, Much Ado About Nothing). There is a combination of external examination and coursework, which are predominantly assessed through essay style responses.
