Modern Foreign Languages

At Key Stage 4 students follow the AQA specification, which requires students to complete four units in the following skill areas: Listening, Reading, Speaking and Writing. Students are required to complete one listening and one reading examination at the end of the course, each worth 20%, and two controlled assessments in both speaking and writing throughout the duration of the course, each worth 15% of the final grade. Students will learn about a wide range of topics, such as Environment, Media, Healthy Living and Future Plans. There is a particular emphasis on communication, memory skills and knowledge of grammar. If pupils excel in languages, they may be given the opportunity to study two languages at GCSE level.
