Religious Education

At GCSE Level we study Religious Studies using the Edexcel Examinations Board. Students study eight units, one in Year 9, four in Year 10 and three in Year 11.

Paper One: Catholic Christianity.

Beliefs and Teachings: This module gives students an opportunity to study key beliefs of Christianity including The Trinity and the Events of the Paschal Mystery and how these events are relevant in the lives of Christians today.

Practices: This module gives students an opportunity to study key practices of Christianity including Prayer and Pilgrimage and the impact that these can have on Christians today.

Sources of Wisdom and Authority: This module gives students an opportunity to study key sources of authority for Christianity including Biblical teachings and quotes from the Pope and guides Christians in the way God wants them to live their lives.

Forms of Expression and Ways of Life: This module gives students an opportunity to study features of Christian churches and various sacred objects and artwork and how these aid worship in Christianity today.

 

Paper Two: Judaism

Beliefs and Teachings: This module gives students an opportunity to study key beliefs of Judaism including The covenant with Abraham and Jewish beliefs about life after death and how these beliefs are relevant in the lives of the Jewish people today.

Practices: This module gives students an opportunity to study key practices of Judaism including Prayer and Festivals and the impact that these can have on Jewish people today.

 

Paper Three: Philosophy and Ethics based on Catholic Christianity:

Arguments for the existence of God: This module gives students an opportunity to study key concepts for and against belief in God including the design argument and the problem of evil and suffering.

Religious Teachings on Relationships and Families in the 21st Century:  This module gives students an opportunity to study key Christian teachings on Marriage and Families and Equality for men and women in the family.
