Transition

Transition to St Wilfrid’s

At St. Wilfrid’s, we understand that starting secondary school is a big step in your educational journey. That’s why we offer a supportive and structured transition programme to help you feel confident and excited about joining us. We work hard to make the process smooth and welcoming for all pupils and their families.

Transition Programme

We warmly invite all Year 6 pupils and their families to our official open evening in the autumn term. This is an opportunity to tour the school, meet our staff and current pupils as well as experiencing interactive lessons- from science experiments to cooking demonstrations and PE lessons.

We have a comprehensive transition package for our pupils where pupils will:

•Meet key staff

•Learn about school routines, timetables, and expectations

•Hear from current pupils about life at St Wilfrid’s

•Get practical information on travel, lunches, and uniform

•Explore our Catholic ethos and vibrant wider life, including clubs, faith opportunities, and support systems

•Prepare for your transition days with all the key details you need

Once pupils have confirmed places at St Wilfrid’s, we invite parents to our Year 6 Welcome Evening where more information is shared about joining us and how to prepare for your child joining us in September.

We understand that moving from primary to secondary school can feel like a big step. That’s why we work closely with pupils, families, and primary schools to ensure you feel informed, prepared, and confident ahead of September.

Support for Every Pupil

We know each child is unique. Whether you’re excited, nervous, or somewhere in between, our caring staff are here to listen and help. We also offer additional transition support for pupils with special educational needs or those joining from smaller primary schools.
